Can private student loans be given to students directly?
April 16th, 2010Private student loans are a type of loan that banks give out to help assist people in going to school, these can help supplement whatever Grant money you received. Sometimes these loans are also known as alternative student loans.
Most of the time the money from these loans is given directly to the school in which you are attending. Most of the time a bank would rather give the money to the school rather than directly to the student. But in actuality since these are private student loans there are many credit unions and banks out there that have no problem with giving the loans directly to student.
The reason for this is quite simple, if you give the money to the student this can enable them to use their own money to buy things that they need for school other than their school fees themselves, like books or maybe a computer, and they can even help students pay for their living expenses. They’re unable to do this if the bank gives the money right to school. With that said make sure to check with whatever institution you’re getting your private student loans from to determine how exactly the money is given out.
If you find out that the money is not given directly to the student you might want to try going with a different lender. Also be sure to make clear the specific purpose of loan that you’re applying for. This can greatly increase your chances of getting your application approved. Once your loan is approved tell the bank which name you want the check made out to.
Be sure to use your loan wisely and try to pay it back as fast as you can as private student loans tend to be quite expensive.
